Hitachi Software to Provide Change Detection Service

Westminster, CO - August 23, 2004 - The Geauga County Auditor's Office has selected Hitachi Software and the HouseDiff service to generate building footprints and conduct building change detection on the county's aerial imagery. 

In the recently completed initial phase of the project, Hitachi Software used the county's aerial imagery to generate building footprints for roughly half of Geauga County. The automatic change detection project (phase two) will be completed on the county's newly acquired Pictometry imagery in late summer 2004. 

HouseDiff is an automatic change detection engine that assists local governments in maintaining more accurate, up-to-date building data. HouseDiff combines existing GIS building and parcel data with recently acquired imagery, resulting in a new GIS file with information on which buildings have changed. This approach accelerates the data collection process and increases the efficiency of manual on-site inspections for tax assessor offices.

With a population of approximately 94,000 residents, Geauga County is located 30 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio. Its county seat is Chardon.
